SUMMER SERIES - 5 February - 17 March


Are you looking for a way to get your health and fitness started for 2024?

The Summer Series is a six-week program hosted by the MOVE Moonee Valley team, and combines a variety of different health and fitness sessions across the three MOVE locations - Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, Keilor East Leisure Centre and Queens Park Pool.

There are a variety of sessions available - Mat Pilates, swimming, cycling, BODYBALANCE™, or Bootcamp sessions. You have the flexibility to pick individual sessions if you'd like to just try everything first, or if you're looking to kickstart your fitness and want a challenge, you can pick and choose sessions from all of them and enjoy the benefits of six weeks of varied training to assist both a healthy body, and a healthy mind!

The best part is that the Summer Series is entirely FREE!! Yep, FREE! It's not a typo. There's no catch. You don't even need to be an existing MOVE member. The Summer Series is open to everybody! 

If you've been thinking about doing something positive for your health and fitness and making a change in 2024, then this is the perfect time to do so, and you can bring a friend, or a neighbour, or a family member - you could even organise a team and challenge each other!

How old do I need to be to participate in the Summer Series?

Participants need to be aged 18yrs and over.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please ensure that you always bring a drink bottle with you, along with a sweat towel.

You'll also be able to access the showers and toilets at Keilor East Leisure Centre (Sunrise Mat Pilates / Bootcamp / Cycle class), and Ascot Vale Leisure Centre (BODYBALANCE™, Zumba® megaclass), in case you need to shower and change your clothes after your class.

For the BODYBALANCE™ and Sunrise Mat Pilates sessions we recommend that you bring a yoga mat. We do have some spares, however they are limited. Alternatively you can purchase yoga mats from a variety of retail stores (e.g. K-mart, BigW, Target, Rebel Sport etc.)

What do I need to wear?

It's important to feel comfortable in what you're wearing to exercising in, and only you can make that decision. Athletic wear is always the better option as it has specific fabrics that wick away sweat and help keep you cool. Avoid heavy fabrics that can become heavier when waterlogged with sweat.

We highly recommend that you invest in appropriate footwear if you're brand new to exercise to ensure that you get the right footwear for the right activity, as well as the right fit for your feet. 

 

What does the BODYBALANCE sessions involve?

BODYBALANCE™ will be held on Monday nights at 7:00pm at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre (Cnr Langs Road & Epsom Road, Ascot Vale).


Whether you can touch your toes or are just starting your fitness journey, BODYBALANCE™ allows you to immerse yourself in the practice through mindful breath and graceful movement flow. You'll work through a variety of postures and movements to get your heart pumping and blood flowing, whilst also working on balance and flexibility. Each session will finish with a moment of stillness and focus on breathing to calm the mind and body.

This is a great session whether you're brand new or you've been practising regularly.
 

What do the Sunrise Mat Pilates sessions involve?

The Sunrise Mat Pilates sessions are on Tuesday mornings at 7:00am at Keilor East Leisure Centre (Quinn Grove, Keilor East).

Whether you're a complete beginner, or you practice regularly, Mat Pilates caters for everybody, even if you think you can't do it or you can't touch your toes. You'll enjoy this introduction to Mat Pilates, and the more you practice the more you'll notice a difference in both your mind and your body.

What do the Couch to 1km Swim sessions involve?

The Couch to 1km Swim sessions is our swim squad for the Summer Series 2024.

These sessions are held on Thursday's at 6:15am at Queens Park Pool, The Strand, Moonee Ponds. (CLICK HERE for a map). Sessions will go for approximately 45mins.

To be able to participate, it is essential that you are a confident swimmer, capable of swimming 150m continuously. This program will focus on building swimming fitness and endurance.

If you're not a confident swimming, or not capable of swimming 150m continuously, we also offer adult swimming lessons for complete beginners. Please get in touch to enquire about adult swimming lessons.

Please ensure that you bring a drink bottle, and a hat / sunscreen. Non-members will have access to changerooms and toilets.


 

What do the Bootcamp sessions involve?

Our Bootcamp sessions are at 7:00am on Saturday mornings at Keilor East Leisure Centre. Please arrive a few minutes early and wait at reception to be met by the trainer.

These bootcamp sessions are a great way to kickstart your health and fitness by incorporating a variety of exercises through high intensity interval training (HIIT). Bootcamp sessions are a great way to improve your cardio fitness and burn calories, and are a great introduction to what can be expected from our Coaching Zone® sessions (available on a MOVE Gold membership).

Please ensure that you bring your sweat towel and a drink bottle! If you find that you're sweating excessively, we encourage you to also consider having some electrolytes before and / or after your workout to help replace what is lost from sweat and avoid dehydration. Additional drinks can also be purchased from the kiosk at Keilor East Leisure Centre.
 

 
IMPORTANT - If you a have a medical condition or a family history of a specific medical problem (e.g. heart / lung / disease, diabetes, high blood pressure etc), please speak to your GP before undertaking any exercise regimen. If you require specific medication (asthma puffer, blood pressure medication, etc), please ensure that you bring these with you.

What do the Cycle classes involve?

The Cycle sessions will be held on Sunday's at 9:30am at Keilor East Leisure Centre.


Our cycle sessions will take place in the cycle studio on stationary bikes, and are suitable for all fitness abilities, especially beginners and those returning to fitness after a break. Indoor cycling will explore a variety of speeds, adjusting resistance to simulate hills / climbs and downhill / flats / sprints. You'll enjoy a soundtrack to match the workout, and the freedom to work at your pace.

Please ensure that you bring a sweat towel and a drink bottle.

Showers and toilets will also be available on site.
