Exercise Is Right Week 2023

Exercise Is right Week 2023 is running at Keilor East Leisure Centre from Monday 22 May to Sunday 28 May, Exercise Is Right Week is an opportunity for everybody to connect to a healthier lifestyle by exploring and discovering new and different workout opportunities.

This year, we’re focusing on a specific workout theme for each day. You can pick and choose which ones suit you more, or you can take up the challenge and try one activity every day for the week!


Monday 22 May – DANCE

Dance is the movement of your body to music, in all kinds of expressive ways! Dancing is an excellent form of cardio exercise, improving the condition of your heart and lungs while increasing muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness. Most importantly – dancing is FUN! And makes you feel great while you’re exercising. Here at MOVE we bring fun and energy to all our dance group fitness classes, so you can dance your stresses away.

Dancing can be a great way to assist with weight management and creating stronger bones to reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

At MOVE we offer a variety of dance classes, including Zumba, Les Mills SH’BAM, and Barre.


Tuesday 23 May – GYM WORKOUT

Have you tried a workout in our fantastic gyms, with high quality gym equipment? Gym workouts bring a lot of benefits including:

  • Weight management
  • Helps combat health conditions and diseases.
  • Improves mood
  • Boosts energy
  • Promotes better sleep
  • Exercise is fun…and social

The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. And strength training twice a week. Our highly qualified trainers can offer you a health consultation and a training program to get you started. You can book via the app or at reception.


Wednesday 24 May – AQUA

MOVE Moonee Valley currently offer 35 Aqua fitness classes across both Ascot Vale and Keilor East Leisure Centres.

There are options to enjoy our aqua classes within our 25 metre as well as the warm water pool.

Aqua fitness, hosted in our 25 metre pool is more a fitness based session that helps increase fitness levels and tone muscle. The aqua fitness instructor will present a variety of moves, accompanied by music for patrons to enjoy.

Aqua fitness is considered to be a low level, more balanced workout for individuals whom require the support of the water. Working in water with the use of aqua fitness equipment / accessories provide optimal resistance training.

These actions benefit aerobic capacity and endurance.

An extra feature of moving in the water is lower level natured impact on muscles and joints

Aqua classes are particularly social and inclusive. Gatherings are encouraged after aqua sessions to entice members to socialise and catch up within our café spaces.


Thursday 25 May – WELLNESS

Wellness Group fitness classes are a way to connect the body and mind to the present. They also open up social interactions and friendships, offer a chance to learn how to move well all in a comfortable, safe and fun environment.

Friday 26 May – STRENGTH

Strength training is any form of exercise that involves using weights or resistance to build strength in your muscles.

Strength training reduces your risk of heart disease, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Lowers risk of type 2 diabetes. It also helps with weight management, mental wellbeing and bone and joint health. All up, strength training may enhance your quality of life and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

At MOVE we offer a fun and diverse range of strength-based programs including Les Mills BODYPUMP and CORE classes, or why not try one of our Coaching Zone classes (requires GOLD membership). Check out the timetable on the website for specific class times.


Saturday 27 May – CYCLE

Cycling is a low impact exercise which offers many benefits. Our cycle classes at both Keilor East and Ascot Vale Leisure Centres are suitable for all levels of fitness.

Across the week we have over 80 classes over both sites. We have instructor led, freestyle, Les Mills RPM and SPRINT and Virtual sessions (MyRide).

Cycling can enhance your fitness levels, It can also promote fat loss, improve cardio vascular fitness, strengthen legs and core. Cycle classes are perfect for all fitness levels and is great for beginners. Boosts mental health by promoting endorphins. Participation in groups gives you a sense of belonging and community


Sunday 28 May – CARDIO

There are plenty of opportunities to increase and improve your cardiovascular fitness within our MOVE sites. Cardio is anything that elevates your heart rate.

The benefits are as follows:

  • increased cardiovascular capacity,
  • increased fat loss,
  • lower blood pressure,
  • support mental health by raising endorphins,
  • regulates blood sugar,
  • improves your sleep.

Studies have shown cardio can also lower stress and cholesterol levels.

Exercise right by including a few cardio sessions in each week. Jump into a dance class such as Zumba or make a 30-minute commitment to any of our abundant cross trainers or rowers.

The group fitness classes offered here at MOVE are Les Mills BODYATTACK and BODYSTEP classes and Circuit.
