MOVE Moonee Valley celebrate ‘Breastfeeding is Welcome Everywhere’

Parents around the world can attest to the challenges of breastfeeding in public; from finding a comfortable spot, managing the stares and navigating the complexities of community support. Recognising these hurdles, MOVE Moonee Valley has partnered with CoHealth to champion the ‘Breastfeeding is Welcome Everywhere’ (BWE) initiative.

This partnership invites families to enjoy a supportive atmosphere at our MOVE venues, ensuring that parents can breastfeed with confidence and comfort, no matter where they are.

Earlier this year a special ‘Breastfeeding is Welcome Everywhere’ morning tea was hosted at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre. Attendees, including young families and grandparents, celebrated this initiative with show bags filled with valuable resources from the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) and important MOVE information, such as creche services, “which were a hit among the guests”, says Jaye Hansford, Community Engagement Coordinator.

“Attendees expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and community support for this initiative. The journey towards becoming a BWE venue began with some important discussions at MOVE Community Network Forums. CoHealth recognised the potential for MOVE Moonee Valley to play a pivotal role in this important initiative and extended an invitation for participation.

“In response, the MOVE leadership team underwent comprehensive training on April 16th, conducted by the Australian Breastfeeding Association. This training equipped our teams with the skills and confidence to support, protect and advocate for breastfeeding practices that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for all community members,” Hansford explained. “Our goal is to have all parents feeling confident that they can meet the needs of their babies, however, they choose to feed them.”

This program highlights the importance of accessibility for spontaneous visits for parents. MOVE Moonee Valley is dedicated to ensuring parents feel comfortable breastfeeding in public spaces, whether they are running errands, attending appointments or simply enjoying their community hub.

Belgravia Leisure strives to support all in the community to benefit from the services, programs, opportunities and facilities it provides. Together, we’re building a brighter, more inclusive future for families in our communities.
