Frequently Asked Questions

The project comprises significant renewal and upgrade works that are required to improve the safety, reliability, functionality and patron experience of the spa and sauna facilities.

The scope of the spa work includes:

  • Installation of new pipework between the spa and jet pumps in the plantroom.
  • Construction and installation of a new balance tank, installation of a new skimmer, drain and suction grate.
  • Relocation of the existing filtration pump and control panel.
  • Upgrade to lighting in the spa plantroom.

The scope of the sauna works includes:

  • Converting the existing two saunas into one large sauna.
  • Construct and install new plant room walkway channel to house both spa and sauna plant controllers and pumps.
  • Installation of new cedar cladding and seating.
  • Installation of new heaters, lighting and flooring.
  • Installation of new fixed cedar glazed windows.
  • Installation of new plumbing and electrical works.

AVLC currently has two saunas. The spa pool pipework runs underneath sauna two.

The floor size of the sauna is required to be reduced to allow access to the spa pipework for future maintenance purposes.

As part of the refurbishment, sufficient access to the spa pipework is required to ensure the infrastructure can be safely maintained and serviced over its lifespan without the need for extensive demolition works in the future. To achieve this, the footprint of the existing sauna area must be reduced to accommodate a dedicated access zone for these essential services.

The project work will include converting the existing two saunas into one larger sauna.

Currently the total sauna space is 30 sq m in total. The new sauna will be 20 sq m in total.

Rather than retaining two smaller saunas, the project has been designed to consolidate the sauna facilities into a single larger sauna. This approach provides a more efficient use of the available space while maintaining a substantial sauna offering for patrons.

Following the upgrade, the new sauna will have a floor area of approximately 20 square metres and will incorporate new cedar cladding and seating, modern heaters, upgraded lighting and flooring, fixed cedar glazed windows, and new plumbing and electrical services. These improvements will deliver a modern, higher-quality sauna environment and enhance the overall user experience.

The project works for the spa and sauna will be delivered concurrently.

The works are scheduled to commence on 21 October 2026 and are anticipated be completed by the end of February 2027.

The spa, steam room, sauna 1, sauna 2 and rinse showers will be closed to patrons during the period of the works.

Alternate spa, steam room and sauna facilities are available at the Keilor East Leisure Centre.

The warm water pool, 25m pool and learners pool, accessible change spaces, including the changing places change space and family changerooms will not be impacted by the works.
